Also, something that I really appreciate is that this is a clean book were you dont have to worry about foul language or indecent sexual scenes. all in all this book has a little bit of everything, and I greatly encourage you to read it!

This book exceeded all expectations and utterly blew me away. What a fascinating and masterfully-written story Family drama, small-town intrigue, bizarre antics and eccentric characters, all set against the backdrop of 1989 America and the fall of the Berlin wall. I requested an advance reader copy thinking that the dynamics of a crazy Russian family in America sounded like a great concept, but I had no idea the story would be so wonderfully engrossing. Let's put it this way I usually read elaborate fantasy and sci-fi novels, so a real world story has to be REALLY colorful to hold my attention - and this is. These amazing characters will surprise and delight you, and the twists and turns of the story will keep you hooked. I blazed through it in two days and it's still putting a smile on my face.

I've been reading JB Chicoine since she first published, and I have to say, I think this book is the best so far. Chicoine dives into the human condition with all its frailty and dysfunction, and gives us an unbelievable roller coaster ride.

Nikolai Solvey has been living a lie since he was a little kid, as a result from a catastrophic incident during his childhood. Returning from England for his sister's wedding is bad enough, but two weeks before the wedding, his beloved step-father dies. His life from that point on will never be the same.

When he meets the seamstress his mother has asked to hem his slacks, he finds an ally in New Hampshire. Together they unravel the mystery of Nik's childhood and uncover a secret that will turn the entire family upside down.

Chicoine's prose is like eating a five course dinner blindfolded, one exceptional surprising course after another. You just can't get enough. I've loved her writing in the past, but this novel has pulled out all the stops. I don't want to give spoilers, but I have to say, it's quite unexpected. I don't have a clue where she gets her ideas from, however, this fiction reads almost as if it could be factual. Kudo's to Chicoine for another job extremely well done. Ten stars!

Very easy to fall into the lives of these characters. Believable satisfying dialogue. Intriguing and accurate historical back story. Didn't want it to end.

This beautiful book aroused my interest even before I reached the first page. There I found an original tale of two families who meet across the generations and find they have much to share. The Russian cultural backdrop brings an interesting perspective to the romance between young protagonists. This is an engaging and unusual story, not the typical genre piece. Well worth reading.
I loved the way a legitimate romance of a poor, hard-working seamstress morphed from a study in autism, narcissism, and delusion disorder morphing into a delightful, madcap surprise-filled totally satisfying conclusion. Whew!
