This is an excellent story for young adult readers and I genuinely enjoyed the plot and the character development. The story flows quickly so I can't imagine anyone getting bored.The author clearly emphasized the more lighthearted elements of the story rather than playing up the darker themes. This allows the book to be accessible to a broader range of readers.
This is not a dystopian novel even though it shares some similar themes to dystopian fiction. This is instead the story of Ellie's awakening to the truth and her journey into a world of freedoms she never knew she had.
It is also the story of a town, full of oddities and secrets. Anyone from a small town, especially those in the Bible Belt, can relate to how it feels to be trapped in a stifling moral/religious environment, wondering if there is more to life.
Lastly, I must say I had a lot of difficulty putting this book down. I had this book read in no time because the story was intriguing enough to continually boost my curiosity about how it would end with the turn of every page. I highly recommend this book to anyone in search of a unique and clever story that will keep even the most easily distracted readers glued to each page.

It was very interesting. Love the book.
I bought this book because I am a friend of the author and I was honestly being a supportive friend. I wasn't sure what to expect as I couldn't recall much of her writing style as it had been several years, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it an engaging read with characters I was vested in. My only critique would be that the climax was a bit abrupt after a build throughout most of the book but I definitely enjoyed reading it, and look forward to future writings and seeing Alexa's growth as an author.
Very interesting read! It is the story of a girl growing up in a community where secrets are closely guarded, and where a lot of dark, sinister things are going on beneath the seemingly perfect surface. There were a lot of surprising twists and turns I didn't see coming, and there were some characters that I didn't want to say goodbye to when I finished the book. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author in the future!
