What a great conclusion to one of the best fantasy romance series!

“My friends… today, we are not Fey, Celierian, or dahl’reisen, but brothers, united and strong, each of us honorable and worthy warriors of Light. We are the steel no enemy can shatter. We are the magic no Dark power can defeat. We are the rock upon which evil breaks like waves. We are warriors of honor, champions of Light.”

The world of the Tairen and the Fey was captivating and enchanting. The attention to details in this series was so painstakingly accurate. I have to give this author props because you really do feel like you are transported into this other world while you read these books. The characters were so well developed and the story flows so easily. This is one of those books that you could be reading for hours and don't even realize it.

This last book was almost full of battle scenes. We have come to the final standoff with the Mages and the Fey. We also get to see the Fey working together with the mortals, Elves and dahl’reisen and of course the Tairen.

I have to say there was a lot of angst in this book. There were several times when I wondered how will this book have a HEA? It seemed at times that things seemed so hopeless. I'm not sure what I would have done if things did not end well for Rain and Ellysetta but don't worry there is definitely a HEA. And of course the passion and love that Rain and Elysetta have for each other comes out in this book, probably even more so that the previous books.

“Then we will die together, Ellysetta.” The corner of his beautiful mouth tilted slightly upwards in a mournful ghost of a smile. “Whatever your fate, I will share it. Wherever your Path leads, there, too, walk I. Ver reisa ku’chae. Kem surah,shei’tani.”

I think we get most of our questions answered in this conclusion. I didn't feel like any part of the story was left untold per say. However I would have liked to get more of Melliandra's story. I felt like she played such a big role in the series and I would have loved to know what happened with her. And I so wished there was an epilogue! To see what happens with Rain and Elysetta in the future, do they have children? What happens with Kieran, Kiel and the twins? Gah! I guess I'm left to my own imagination.

Overall the Tairen Soul series was a fantastic series! It will draw you in and make you never want to stop reading and that is always the best sign of a good book. Highly recommended!

I have one major complaint about this series The individual books end mid-story and so you pretty much have to read them all to get any resolution. Most series have stories in which the individual books resolve enough of that books issues to make it a reasonable stand alone. Not these. It's almost as if Ms Wilson hit a page count and just ended the book on it. I found that very annoying.

Having said that, I bought all of them and read the whole thing. It was imaginative and engrossing and I enjoyed it, though, because all the books are really just one long story, some reader fatigue had set in by the beginning of the last book.
So I devoured all 5 books in a little over a week. Clearly I loved the story line and the whole world Wilson created. It's been awhile since I've been sucked into such a well developed fantasy world. I loved the language, customs, and the variety of immortal and mortal characters. It also had just the right amount of good versus evil.

My only complaint (other than the bad book covers- there's no way that guy is Rain) would be Ellie and her wavering self confidence. I rolled with it through the first few books but towards #4 and 5 I wanted her to get with it already! I wanted her to grown into herself faster and accept that she is a good person. I felt that her inner conflict went on too long. I also hope there might be a spin off series or maybe a novella or two about some of the other characters, like the twins and Mellisandra.
This is a fabulous series. However, it took 4.6 books to reach the climax and only 5 minutes to become anticlimactic. *SPOILER ALERT*

So, our heroine finally meets her "maker" and her parents and in the space of only several pages she defeats the bad guy and her parents, who she admittedly never knew intimately as she was raised by surrogates (who found her alone in the forest [which by the way we are never advised of how that happened] with her magic shielded until the shields fail), assist her with almost no real connection and then swiftly disappear from the landscape.

Almost 5 books and then wham! bam! thankyouma'am she wins without almost any effort .. not even a hint of whiplash as she careens from the Well into what feels like a dungeon based upon the description, where the Dark Mage uses her mage claimed sisters against her (and their saving is another story that was flicked past the reader with almost no commentary).

After 1000 years in the captivity of the Dark Mage don't you think that Shan and Elfeya would have some residual impact? How did they manage to secret the babe Ellysetta to the forest? What affect on the little twins did their claiming have? So many unresolved questions in the final chapter of this epic adventure which was brought to an abrupt ending (
