Tandi Jo Reese has finally found a safe place to build her life and hope blooms strong as her wedding nears. However, when Tandi receives notice of a lawsuit against her, she is convinced she must confront her sister, Gina, who, most likely, is the cause of this issue. However, when she arrives in Tidewater, she finds the past she needs to confront is far more vast than she knew.

The Tidewater Sisters by Lisa Wingate is the postlude novella to The Prayer Box. In a sense, the novella could stand-alone as Wingate gives the essential background information, but I don't think it would be particularily engaging to me if I hadn't read The Prayer Box. It was my previous enjoyment of these characters that helped me enjoy The Tidewater Sisters.

As is common for novellas, there's limited character development, but Wingate does an admirable job in other areas. The plot never dragged. The relationship between Tandi and Gina rings with authenticity. She remarkably portayed the reality of dysfunctional families without a miraculous, neat, wrap-everything-up-in-a-fake-way ending. However, she managed to give Tandi a hopeful and healthy future.

Bottom Line: If you enjoyed The Prayer Box by Lisa Wingate, you'll enjoy revisiting Tandi Jo Reese in The Tidewater Sisters.

The Tidewater Sisters Postlude to The Prayer Box A Carolina Chronicles edition by Lisa Wingate Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Love Lisa Wingate! Always uplifting and insightful.

I absolutely love Lisa Wingate’s novels! I started with Tending Roses and have read and enjoyed each and every one of her books.

I enjoy Lisa’s writing style, character development, unique story lines and the fact that there is always personal growth, reconciliation and redemption in her novels. Lisa always finds an interesting premise, location or historical reference that leads me to do further research on the topic presented. I also like that her books are written in series which gives me an opportunity to get to know the characters better as the story lines develop and to see how they are progressing or what they are up to once they aren’t the focal point of the current story.

While I don’t always like the personalities of the characters (I’m sure that’s Lisa’s intent) at the onset, I do grow to love them and understand and appreciate their individual challenges and personalities as the story unfolds. I have sometimes felt uncomfortable as I was being taught lessons I needed to learn about how others might be challenged or struggling in their lives and the scenarios are realistic enough that you can certainly apply them to real life situations. At the end of the book, I am always loath to leave them and feel as if they are real people that I’ve grown to know and care about.

I have been inspired by Lisa’s wisdom, challenged to become a better person, laughed, cried and fallen in love with the people and localities she writes about.

I feel I am a better person for having read these books and always appreciate the measure of grace she brings to her writing. Each book leaves a great impression on me and my heart is full for a long time after the last page is turned.

It is important to me that Lisa somehow manages to do all of this without feeling the need to use graphic language or sex scenes as I do not find that these add anything to a story.

Don’t think that her books aren’t entertaining! Lisa adds wit to go along with the wisdom! There is always a little bit of romance, too!

I hope you will take the time to pick up one of Lisa’s books. You won’t be disappointed.
Really love Lisa Wingate's books. This is short little "novella" type work that gives a little background to "the Prayer Box", which I loved. Very quick read. I find Wingates books very refreshing in today's literature---I love her reverence for and connection to past, to family, and to finding personal wisdom and understanding. I love that she writes a clean, engaging story without resorting to sordid and graphic sex and violence. Her characters are imperfect but able to draw appropriate responses from the reader. I have often found her books to be page turners I read into the night. I am always a little sad when they are "over" --and the stories have enough surprises to keep me coming back. There are similar themes in a number of her books, but they are not what I would call formulaic plots. Very enjoyable. I am working my way through her catalog of works.
I truly loved The Tidewater Sisters novella. If you haven't read Lisa's Fantastic book "The Prayer Book" go back and read it first. This novella can work as a stand alone novel, but it will mean so much more by reading "The Prayer Book" first. It will give you the history about the characters.Besides that, it was my favorite read in 2017. The author has a great way of drawing you into the story right from the start. Your heart just bleeds for her characters, they feel so real. She tells such sad tales, but she doesn't leave you there. Her characters are very strong and never give up, Tandi Jo is a fine example of a strong woman. She has an on going battle with her older sister Gina. Who is the bad guy in the story that you love to hate. It looks like finally everything is coming together for Tandi until her sister enters the picture again. I have read several of Lisa's books and I never have been disappointed. I highly recommend this novella.
