Drowned Nichola Reilly Books
I don’t usually care for post-apocalyptic tales - I find them to be flat and fingerwagging. Not so Drowned. I thoroughly enjoyed this book for the ingenious plot, the engaging characters and the writing craft.Set in a world after a cataclysmic flood, a group of 500 live in The Tides, the grounds of a former hotel on a mountain in Pennsylvania. It is ruled by the hotelier’s descendent who are now royalty. Twice daily the people of The Tides stand in tight formation on a platform - the only place besides the castle to be protected from high tide.
Teenage Coe is naturally small, looks different than the others, and was mauled by an evil sea creature (a scribbler) and lost her arm. She’s relatively useless to this society and tasked with cleaning the craphouse.
Next to her in the formation is handsome Tian, selected by the dying King to be his successor. The people of Tides rebel, as does Coe’s heart, and much action ensures (will give no spoilers here) as they try to fight off the opposing faction and find a way out of the gloom of Tides.
I found Coe and Tian and even the vapid Princess to be fully drawn characters who I could relate to, and I was totally absorbed in the world of Drowned. I highly recommend this book.

Drowned Nichola Reilly Books Reviews
I really enjoyed this novel by Nichola Reilly. This post-apocalyptic fantasy has it all. The story captivates you. It is unique and entertaining - filled with adventure, romance, danger & mystery, as well as interesting and complex characters. It's a real page turner - I couldn't put it down. I am looking forward to the sequel and more from this author
great job loved it very much thank-you. I will keep shopping on just love it.
If you enjoy dystopian fiction, I highly recommend Drowned. I found it to be a thrilling read.
I liked the way the author wove different water mythologies into the story. I thought it was well-crafted.
I also enjoyed the cliff-hanger ending because I am excited about the sequel. I really need to know what happens. I became emotionally invested in Coe, the protagonist, as I read this novel.
This was one of my favorite novels of 2014! Unique world and fantastic character depth, I couldn't put this book down!
I couldn't read this book fast enough to figure out what the heck was going on! Such an interesting and fun read.
I'm not a big fan of YA, having left my teens several decades ago, so I'm pickier than usual when it comes to this genre. While this novel isn't perfect, the setting and protagonist are interesting and unique enough that it kept me engaged. 35+ years ago I would have been blown away and not sweated some of the details that occasionally took me out of the story. Minor stuff, really. If you want to fill a couple of hours with a dystopian YA that keeps a good pace throughout and checks some good trope boxes, you'll get a kick out of this. Well-written overall. Believable characters and dialogue.
This is a really interesting book that sparkles with all sort of refreshing and unique qualities. The heroine, who is disabled, takes us on an adventure that will leave you breathless as Coe finds her way out of the secrets and lies that have oppressed her and all of those around her. Something about these adventures - the island, the danger, the dark unknown (alliances) - reminded me of the tv show LOST in the best way. Read it! You won't be able to put it down!
