Crime of Privilege A Novel Walter Walker Books

This tale is based around two violent crimes toward two women, both of whom are relative nobodys, who have the misfortune of attending parties at the "Gregory" mansion where undesirable events are kept hidden by the never seen nor developed character of "Ned," the Gregory patriarch who also happens to be a US senator. The novel is set in and around Cape Cod so that it's very clear that "Ned Gregory" is supposed to be Ted Kennedy and the murderer/rapist his nephew or son or some such. (Trust me, you won't care which.) Setting all that aside, the novel aspires to be a Tana French or Colin Harrison romp with surprises round every bend and enough twists to keep any mystery fan enthralled but, about half way through, I lost interest. It's difficult to keep all of the assorted characters straight and, since none of them are interesting OR fully developed, the reader doesn't care anyway. The protagonist ends up in Idaho at one point and the description of the white water rafting trip he takes is the most inaccurate(and boring) account of that adventure I've ever read, after having done it myself. If you're looking for a quick summer read, this book is okay but, if you love a good tale that deepens as the plot unwinds with characters that haunt your nightmares, look elsewhere.

Crime of Privilege A Novel Walter Walker Books Reviews

This book is good. It is not riveting. It is easy reading. Fun beach read or for a cold day.
Good mystery! It was a familiar plot about a famous that we all know from politics but always fascinate us.
Characters were easy to follow. Plot was a bit circuitous at times but overall an interesting read and believable characters
I enjoyed the storyline but the details were not tied up. I wanted a real conclusion and the different characters lives to be tied up.
This book is about a Massachusetts and Cape Cod family that is a thinly disguised version of the Kennedys. I enjoyed the Cape Cod references because I live there.
Good book, fun and fast, with lots of veiled references to the Kennedys (or at least a family very much like the Kennedys). I expected a bit more of a payoff in the plot, some unexpected twist or turn that would surprise me. Each time I thought we were going some place really interesting, it just fell a little short of expectations. Although this was meant to mirror a ripped-from-the-headlines plot, it was fiction so why not do something with that freedom? I also could never warm up to the main character since he never really managed to be courageous or selflessly do the right thing. But on balance, i liked the book. It was well written and smart and held my interest throughout.
These thinly veiled I'm characters seem to be wannabe Kennedy's. The privileged and powerful denizens of the wealthy northeast who get away with murder are the subjects and the objects of this story. The style is easy and straightforward, though somewhat predictable. The most exciting scenes are left too quickly (France& Costs Rica),as are some of the participants. All in all, a well contrived yarn. Bravo
